Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science.

The Division of Clinical Laboratory Science has been an independent Division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Medicine since 2014.

The main research profile of the Division is related to the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. The research experience extends from basic research to clinical research and to applied research (diagnostic method development). Basic research area includes the structural-functional  studies of haemostasis proteins, understanding the role of coagulation and fibrinolysis proteins within and outside of blood coagulation. The division has been very active in a wide spectrum of clinical research as coordinator or contributor, mostly but not exclusively based on our experience in haemostasis assays and research techniques. Clinical areas of interest include but not limited to clinical disorders of thrombosis and haemostasis, including venous and arterial thromboembolism, inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, rare haemostasis disorders and haemorrhagic diathesis. The group has been actively involved in applied research, particularly in the research and development of haemostasis diagnostic assays. This included in the past decade the development of antithrombin heparin cofactor and progressive antithrombin assays, diagnostic kit for determining the efficacy of heparin therapy, platelet aggregation reagent kits for determining the efficacy of P2Y12 receptor antagonists, ELISA kits for the determination of factor XIII (FXIII) subunit  antigen levels, ELISA kits for the determination of alpha2 plasmin inhibitor levels and isoforms.

Our teaching activity covers a wide spectrum including medical students, medical laboratory analysis BSc and MSc students. The Division is the coordinator of the research laboratory specialization of medical laboratory analysis BSc and of clinical laboratory science MSc. We are engaged to support students’ scientific activity, thesis writing and PhD education.

We have laboratory diagnostic activity under the umbrella of Specialist Clinical Haemostasis Laboratory of the Clinical Center and investigate those rare parameters, which require special knowledge.

Members of the division, details of our research and educational activity and diagnostic profile are found on this homepage. For more detailed information on graduate courses please visit the e-learning website (https://elearning.med.unideb.hu/). Elements of the laboratory diagnostic activity, laboratory request forms and requirements for sample transfer are also found on the homepage of Laboratory Medicine (https://labmed.unideb.hu/).
